Salt water aquarium in master bath
We're embarking on a new adventure. Both Deb and I have always wanted a salt water aquarium, so we're giving it a try. This 55 gallon tank is one day old in this image, the water salted and bacteria-enhanced coral rubble in place; now we have to wait a while. Next step is to add "live rock", which contains all manner of tiny animal life, but we have to allow time for the water to stabilize and a few other issues to settle out.
The tank size fits nicely on the stand by the sinks; since we can't get rid of the stand (it's actually a structural component of the building, provides headroom for some stairs behind that wall), we thought we'd put it to use with the aquarium. Kind of a peaceful thing to have in the bathroom.
Salting Operations, La Coloradas, Yucatan, Mexico
I had seen these blocks with their pinkish hue from the Google-Earth Machine, and for sure, they are pink. The area where these operations are take up a huge amount of land, which I thought was odd since it borders a sensitive natural preserve, they had to destroy something in order to make these drying pens. You can see in the background the huge mound of salt, probably 50-feet or more in height, and there was a conveyor that went across the street and extended out into the Gulf for loading operations.
